The John Paul Jones house

Built in 1758 by Captain Gregory Purcell.
 Captain John Paul Jones lived here in 1777,
while superinteding the outfitting of the Ranger and arranging for its crew.
 He lived here a second time in 1781 while the ship America was
being built.

Some sites of interest
Rice's Ferry -- top of map, in Kittery.
Badger Island -- in Piscataqua between Kittery and Portsmouth
    (The area named Fernald & Pettigrew's shipyard is probably where the Ranger was built.)
Spring Market -- on the river, south of the west edge of Badger Island, corner of Bow and Ceres.
Jonathan Hamilton's store -- just west of Spring Market on Ceres St.
St. John's Church -- East of Spring Market on Chapel St.
Market Square -- lower left.  Probable site of the Portsmouth Parade.
Old North Church -- south side of Market Square.
Old South Church -- south of Old North on State St.
Earl of Halifax / William Pitt Tavern (not marked) -- The street on the south side of Old South Church is Court Street.  East of Old South, on the southwest corner of Court and Atkinson is the location of the Earl of Halifax Tavern.
