Bertha C. Day is the illustrator. Bertha Corson Day Bates (1875-1968) was a Philadelphia painter and illustrator, a pupil of Howard Pyle. She studied at the Drexel Institute and worked for Harper Brothers,Little Brown, and other publishers.
